Today marks the auspicious occasion of Rādhāṣṭamī, observed on the eighth day (aṣṭamī) of the bright fortnight (śukla pakṣa) in the sacred month of Bhādrapada.
Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī, the eternal beloved of Lord Kṛṣṇa, is the embodiment of unwavering devotion and selfless love. She personifies patience, humility, and pure devotion, offering a divine example of love. Though she endured suffering in the fires of separation from her beloved, Rādhā expected nothing in return, allowing neither distance nor suffering to diminish the radiance of her devotion.
In the Vaiṣṇava tradition, this mystery of divine love experienced through separation is known as vipralambha-prema. Rādhā's birth star is Viśākhā, a nakṣatra whose symbolism carries division and branching, yet whose Vyāpana Śakti drives an unwavering pursuit of its aim, so that even a path split by viraha stays fixed on its destination. Separation from the beloved does not diminish love, but intensifies it, until longing itself becomes a vehicle for union with the Divine.
The trials Rādhā endured through separation from Kṛṣṇa reveal the deeper principle of Śani Dev, the graha of restraint, patience, and longevity. Saturn, who anchored the churning of the cosmic ocean, teaches endurance through hardship and the purification of desire, where love is tested and refined.
Rādhā, the highest expression of Śani, reveals how devotion endures even under these conditions, ultimately leading to the transcendence of worldly attachments and union with the Divine.

Lakṣmī Vrata | 9.18–10.02
Today also marks the beginning of Lakṣmī Vrata, a sixteen-day observance devoted to Śrī Lakṣmī, continuing through Kṛṣṇa Aṣṭamī. It is a time to cultivate purity, gratitude, generosity, and abundance through prayer, mantra, offerings, and conscious restraint.
One may also take a personal vrata for these sixteen days by giving up something habitual or excessive and redirecting that energy toward devotion, generosity, and what one wishes to cultivate more deeply.
